qucs 0.0.9/0.0.10 installer unavailable
Apparently there is a problem with the qucs 0.0.9
installation packed. The application(s) will launch, but when trying to simulate
a circuit an error message related to "lazy binding" is thrown. I'm
investigating the issue, but have not come up with a solution so far. The
installer will be online again, when I found a fix. I'm sorry for the
inconvinience that my have caused.

Qt3.3.x-based programs: qtiplot 0.87 for Macs with PowerPC processor
(MacOSX 10.4.x)
A binary installer for QtiPlot 0.8.7 for Macs with
PowerPC is available for download on the ATG website. QtiPlot is a graphing and
analysis software for scientists and engineers which is inspired in
its design by Origin™. Some of its features: 2D and 3D data plotting,
ASCII-Import, powerful and versatile spreadsheets and calculations in
column-logic, non-linear y=f(x) curve fitting and estimation of statistical
errors of the fit-parameters.
(This installer
INCLUDES the
required Qt3.3.6 as well as all other needed libraries.) The new scripting
support for python requires an existing Python 2.4 on your computer - for
details see installer messages and included
README.

PowrPC, now an installer of the Social Network Visualiser 0.41 (SNV) for Macs
with Intel processor(s) is available as download from the ATG website . SNV is a GPL
program designed to allow people draw, visualise and
layout social networks . SNV can read and write various network file
formats, such as PAJEK, sociomatrix and dot. It enables the user to visually
modify an existing network or draw a new network using the mouse. Network and
actor properties, such as distances, centralities, diameter etc, can be easily
computed. Also, SNV can create random networks given a link
probability.

Qt4.1.x based programs: cb2bib 0.6.9 UB for MacOSX 10.4 (or

An installer for cb2bib 0.6.9 (universal binary)
is available on the ATG
website from the Qt4-software section. cb2Bib is a tool for rapidly extracting
unformatted biblographic references from email alerts, journal Web
pages, and PDF files. The cb2Bib is intended to be used by scientists and
students. It facilitates catching single references at the time of being
announced. The references are formatted as BibTeX standard. Applications like
Bibdesk, Pybliographer, or OpenOffice can later retrieve, import, use, or
display these BibTeX references.

Qt3.3.x-based applications: neurALC 1.0.0 for PowerPC and Intel (MacOSX
10.4 or higher)
The neurALC 1.0.0 release is available for
download on the ATG website . neurALC is a program intended for
working and analyzing neuronal multi-electrode recordings. In the current
version it offers somewhat functionality (e.g. PSTH, auto/cross-correlation,
instant firing rate, spectrum, recurrence, extraction of firing patterns, etc
. ) to reveal and analyze some aspects of the information contained in
such recordings. For the moment the NEV-format (version 2.0) is supported (some
other file formats can be used after preprocessing using NEV2lkit); analytical
results can be saved to ASCII text-files and/or stored in a MySQL database,
graphics can be printed to PDF.
There are separate installer packages availble for Macs with PowerPC or Intel-processors - please choose the package of your choice. The PowerPC-packages now incoporates all required libraries inside the application (only fftw3.dylib is installed to the system). The "Intel"-packages will be updated in a similiar way soon (whenever I get "install_name_tool" properly working on that platform) - for the moment the required libraries are placed in their corresponding places on Intel (/usr/local/lib). the summer brings…
this year several changes to the ATG
website.
while it's summer over europe *and everything
& everyone is groaning about the heat including myself* I used the last
weeks to work partly on some restructuring and update measures for ATG. Most of
it is "invisible" for the occasional visitor, but some things finally will be
revealed starting the next weekend, 28th - 30th of july. There will be more, so

just a short note, which might explain to some
people why the latest versions of some of the programs are *at the moment*
unavailable on the ATG website: first I have another life *couldn't resist that
one =8)*, second: there
will be self-contained apps in the future.

At least for the Qt3-based programs, and at least for the native version for Macs with Intel-processors. I found a nice tutorial on how to do this without statically linking *and the need to compile the static version of the Qt3 or other libs*, so I'm reworking the existing "Intel"-installers, including some pending updates…
You ask why? Well, it is a little bit arduous to create universal binaries for some of the programs which are based on the Qt3-framework (and possibly a bunch of additional program-specific required libs) - so there will be separate installers for PPC- and Intel-based Macs.
Second: there is a problem with a system-wide "mini"-installation of the required Qt3 libraries on an "Intel"-Mac - it's simply not easily possible to use "PPC"- AND "Intel"-executables with a processor-specific Qt3-"mini"-installation. But if at least the "Intel"-version are "self-contained" *read the app includes all required libs&frameworks* one can use both types of executables. "PPC"-binaries will run within Rosetta , while "Intel"-binaries will run natively and at maximum speed. So watch this space during the next weeks…
Of course if somebody like to help *read: has the time* with the "lipo-ing" there will be universal binaries *but I surely don't have the time for that… sorry.*

Qt3.3.6-based, "Intel"-only applications: QCad 2.05 Community
Edition
A separate installer for QCad 2.05 CE for
"Intel"-Macs-*only!* can be download from the ATG website .This package needs
the "minimal"-installer package of Trolltech's Qt 3.3.6 (GPL edition) for
"Intel"-Macs only which is available from the same software-section. QCad is a
2D CAD system. It is easy to construct and edit drawings. You can work with
ISO-conform scales, fillings, fonts, DXF files, and much more. This is a binary
installer of the GPL'ed version of QCad - in contrast to the unregistered
shareware version it has no time limit for usage, but does not offer scripting
or polyline support. If these feature are a "must", visit the QCad homepage and get
the very reasonable priced shareware
version.

And QtiPlot 0.8.3 - a graphing and analysis software for scientists and engineers. Some of its features: 2D and 3D data plotting, ASCII-Import, powerful and versatile spreadsheets and calculations in column-logic, non-linear y=f(x) curve fitting and estimation of statistical errors of the fit-parameters.
More packages will follow. This applications should run at maximal speed when used with the Qt3.3.6-"mini" installation on Macs with Intel Core Solo- or Duo-processors.

Wait a moment - why there are no universal binaries? Due to time restrictions and simple "lack of knowledge" from my side, I don't know how to generate and combine PowerPC- and Intel-version of the additional libraries and frameworks, which are needed by the applications (like for example PyQt, SIP, Babel, etc.). So, as written before, if not all Qt-based apps you use are available as native version for the Mac you use, please stay with the PowerPC-version (which are all that are not marked as Intel-version), which will run on both CPU-types. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, headaches, reinstallations,etc. that might cause (and surely this is somewhat against the ease-of-use on a Mac… sorry.).

Tja, da sowohl meine Kenntnisse, als auch die mir zur Verfügung stehende Zeit begrenzt sind, und ich momentan schlicht nicht weiss, wie ich "UBs" der zu einigen der Anwendungen gehörenden zusätzlichen Pakete (zB.: PyQt, SIP, Babel, etc.) einfach erzeugen kann, gibt es die Anwendungen "nach und nach" als "pur-Intel"-Installationspakete. Wie schon vorher angedeutet: falls NICHT ALLE der Qt3-basierten Anwendungsprogramme, die Sie nutzen in einer "Intel"-version vorliegen, benutzen Sie bitte weiter die "PowerPC"-Version der Qt3.3-Bibliotheken und darauf basierender Programme (das sind alle Anwendungen, die NICHT als als "Intel"-Installationspaket gekennzeichnet sind), die unter MacOSX generell funktionieren sollten.
Freilich ist das durchaus konträr zum "ease-of-use" auf einem Mac, ich vermag es allerdings im Moment leider nicht zu ändern.

Compiling Intel version, ATG, and the rest…
First: a big THANKS for everyone who has
offered me a few CPU cycles on his/her machine! THANKS A LOT!

But due to the sometimes problematic compilation procedure I'm a little precariously wether I can correctly explain or have the time for that *at least for some programs* the whole procedure which is sometimes needed to compile one of the programs on ATG.The compilation HippoDraw, XDrawChem, Qucs, or Rekall *to name just a few* requires the compilation & installation of a variety of other packages, which is sometimes not so trivial *at least for me*. For an installer package of course these additiva must been traced/logged and included in an "Intel"-installer package, which is simply time consuming. *Not to talk about at least some testing before providing an installer to the public*
Because an Intel-based Mac is from now at my disposal =8), I'll start compilation and packaging of Qt3.3.6 for Intel-based Macs next. After that, the other programs will follow. Within this context I would like to hear which programs should be available in an addtional Intel-native version first? I'll collect your input till 01.06.2006 - the program(s) mentioned most will appear first *besides my personal favourites*. Because leisure-time is limited *and ATG is a single-person project* I like to ask for help in testing this "new" packages. So if you have an Intel-based Mac and like to contribute by that, please let me know too.
Some background, because a few people asked: In the last year ATG had somewhat 70000 visits, the programs installers occupy a rough 1.something gigabyte of server disk space, plus the backup of the packagemaker installer projects, required sources of additional libs and programs which for now are about 12 Gigabyte. This requirements will of course significantly increase in the moment, when there are Intel-versions of programs, etc. So if you like to contribute or donate something, please let me know *I'm still looking for a cheap replacement for my old ibook now that ATG has a new home, so if you are aware of a nice offer for, for example an older iBook which can at least run MacOSX 10.3.x, please contact me .*.
Due to a physical location change, ATG will get a new fixed IP sometime during the next 2 or 3 weeks. I like to apologize for any inconvenience that might cause.

Da die Kompilation in einigen Fällen allerdings wenigsten aufwendig, bzw. in einigen Fällen auch nicht unbedingt als "trivial" zu bezeichnen ist, war ich etwas zurückhaltend in der Annahme dieser Angebote. Da beispielsweise Programme wie HippoDraw, XDrawChem, Qucs, oder Rekall *um nur mal einige zu nennen* zum Teil die Compilierung weiterer Programme und/oder Bibliotheken notwendig machen, und diese entsprechenden Abhängigkeiten in die Installationspakete mit einfliessen müssen, ist das Ganze, um es mal positiv zu formulieren, "zeitaufwendig" (mal ganz davon abgesehen, dass dabei auch reichlich Festplattenplatz benötigt wird).
Weil mir jetzt ein Intel-basierte Mac zur Verfügung steht *=8)* werde ich damit beginnen Qt3.3.6 auch für diese Hardware zu kompilieren und Installationspakete zu packen. da stellt sich natürlich die Frage, für welche Programme als "erstes" ein Installationspaket verfügbar sein sollte? Bis zum 01. Juni 2006 sammle ich entsprechende Wunsch-EMails an mich - die am häufigsten genannten, werden dann auch zuerst erscheinen. Da meine Freizeit limitiert ist *ATG ist ein Ein-Personen-Projekt*, wäre ich dankbar, wenn sich möglichst viele Menschen zum Testen dieser "neuen" Installationspakete fänden .
Und weil ein paar gefragt haben: im vergangenen Jahr hatte ATG scheins *für mich nach wie vor unglaubliche* ungefähr 70000 Seitenzugriffe. Die Installationspakete aller Programme belegen etwas mehr als ein Gigabyte Festplattenplatz auf dem Server, plus dem Backup der Installationspakete (Packagemaker Projekte), benötigter Quellen und Kompilaten additiver Bibliotheken und Programmen, die insgesamt rund 12 Gigabyte belegen. Das Ganze legt dann natürlich noch einmal deutlich zu, wenn entsprechende Intel-Versionen dazu kommen. Falls also jemand etwas beitragen oder spenden möchte, lasse er mich dies bitte wissen *Nachdem ATG nun ein neues Hardware-Zuhause" gefunden hat, suche ich immer noch nach einem günstigen Ersatz für mein dahingeschiedenes iBook. Und weil ein paar gefragt haben: im vergangenen Jahr hatte ATG scheins *für mich nach wie vor unglaubliche* ungefähr 70000 Seitenzugriffe. Die Installationspakete aller Programme belegen etwas mehr als ein Gigabyte Festplattenplatz auf dem Server, plus dem Backup der Installationspakete (Packagemaker Projekte), benötigter Quellen und Kompilaten additiver Bibliotheken und Programmen, die insgesamt rund 12 Gigabyte belegen. Das Ganze legt dann natürlich noch einmal deutlich zu, wenn entsprechende Intel-Versionen dazu kommen. Falls also jemand etwas beitragen oder spenden möchte, lasse er mich dies bitte wissen *Nachdem ATG nun ein neues Hardware-Zuhause" gefunden hat, suche ich immer noch nach einem günstigen Ersatz für mein dahingeschiedenes iBook. Falls also jemand ein günstiges Angebot für ein älteres iBook hat/kennt (MacOSX 10.3 sollte ohne "Verrenkungen" drauf laufen), kontaktiere man mich bitte .*
Durch den Umzug auf den neuen Mac, der sich auch physikalisch an einem anderen Ort befinden wird, erhält ATG irgendwann in den naechsten 2 Wochen eine neue IP-Adresse. da ich keine Ahnung habe, wie schnell eine entsprechende Namensänderung im DomainName-Service propagiert wird, entschuldige ich mich schon mal für eventuelle Unannehmlichkeiten wie Nichterreichbarkeit, etc..
